Traditional manufacturers spray their bedding products with fire retardant chemicals to make them fire resistant. These chemicals are linked to cancer and a number of long-term health risks. Why is this so widely tolerated?

Wool is a naturally fire resistant material for a number of reasons. It has high moisture and nitrogen content, as well as a high oxygen index at about 26%. Wool has a high ignition threshold of 1100ºF or 600ºC, and low heat of combustion and release. If ignited, the material would form a self-insulating char that prevents fire propagation by not melting or dripping.
